How To Prepare Your Property For A New Driveway Installation

Once you’ve chosen your new driveway surface and had your free quotation, a little preparation ahead of installation day helps everything run as smoothly as possible. Here’s what’s worth thinking about.

Clear The Area

Move any vehicles, bins, planters or garden furniture away from the driveway and the surrounding access route. The more clear space our team has to work with, the more efficiently the job can progress.

Think About Access

Let us know about anything that might affect access — narrow gates, overhanging branches, or shared driveways with neighbours. Flagging this in advance means it can be planned for rather than discovered on the day.

Consider Your Drainage Needs

If you’ve had problems with pooling water or drainage in the past, mention it during your consultation. It’s far easier — and more cost-effective — to design proper drainage into a new installation than to add it in later.

Plan For Some Disruption

Depending on the size and surface chosen, most driveway installations take anywhere from a few days to around two weeks. There will be some noise and activity during this time, and you may need to arrange alternative parking temporarily.

Ask About Curing Time

Newly laid surfaces need time to properly settle before they can take regular use:

  • Block paving: usually safe to drive on after 3–7 days
  • Tarmac: typically usable within a few days once cooled and set
  • Resin bound surfaces: your installer will confirm exact timing based on conditions

We’ll always confirm the right timeline for your specific project before we finish up.
